Whether any will be actually justified by works either in this life or at the final judgment is beside the apostle’s interest and design at this juncture. The burden of this verse is that not the hearers or mere possessors of the law will be justified before God but that in terms of the law the criterion is doing, not hearing. The apostle’s appeal to this principle serves that purpose truly and effectively, and there is no need to import questions that are not relevant to the universe of discourse. ...Although the word justify is not used here with reference to the justification which is the grand theme of the epistle, the forensic meaning of the term justify is evident even in this case

Samuel Waldron---http://www.cbtseminary.org/cbts-blog-original/is-there-a-future-justification-by-works-at-the-day-of-judgment--1Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06233995709579822605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422410239991902086.post-89875383973780593542013-11-06T10:11:48.635-08:002013-11-06T10:11:48.635-08:00Richard UK,

What is sanctification?
A. Sanctification is a work of God's grace, whereby they whom God hath, before the foundation of the world, chosen to be holy, are in time, through the powerful operation of his Spirit applying the death and resurrection of Christ unto them, renewed in their whole man after the image of God; having the seeds of repentance unto life, and all other saving graces, put into their hearts, and those graces so stirred up, increased, and strengthened, as that they more and more die unto sin, and rise unto newness of life.

Owen's point is that it is the gospel, or the grace of it that is the power in the believer's sanctification, in other words - not the Law.Jack Millerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18281378425270530573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422410239991902086.post-40769750195046940082013-07-28T19:16:51.847-07:002013-07-28T19:16:51.847-07:00This is cool! This is cool!Valentinahttp://bestmemoryfoammattressreviews.us/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422410239991902086.post-10956438076297596332013-05-24T16:39:21.984-07:002013-05-24T16:39:21.984-07:00Richard UK,

Does not the New Man, or the Born Again, or the Regenerate Heart bear any power against sin's lure? And if it does, why take issue with the view that "supplies of the spirit or aids of grace for the subduing of sin" is real power?

I say it is both an infusion of power and an imputation of status. I read the passage over again, and then the chapter and then the entire book.
I have already put my desires for my funeral services in writing, and this passage is what I would like my Pastor to preach from. Lord willing it is not so soon that Pastor Ron would be available,if you know what I mean.
Blessings on you and Barbara.

GingerGingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12380905625176673629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422410239991902086.post-16467641722074105232013-05-20T00:55:12.811-07:002013-05-20T00:55:12.811-07:001. Its continued presence presumably arises from a minister's fear that God will be unable to complete his work in the flock without human cooperation.
2. If the correct view is that the converted man is no longer under the penalty of sin but remains at the mercy of its power, the VL idea reverses this - that we are no longer under its power but remain under some form of penalty if we do not take advantage of the alternative 'power' available - that of the Holy Spirit.
3. Surely it is the notion of the 'infusion' of a 'power' - as opposed to an imputation of a status - that encourages the VL view. There are dangers is John Owen's view, quoted opposite "But the gospel...communication of internal spiritual strength unto believers. By it do they receive supplies of the Spirit or aids of grace for the subduing of sin and the destruction of its dominion"
4. Ultimately the VL view follows easily on from a misreading of 'should we' in Rom 6:1 as 'may we'.Richard UKnoreply@blogger.com
